Aside from fashion shoots with naked girls and snide street fashion commentary,
Vice mag has been turning out some seriously high quality journalism of late. For instance, their first feature length documentary,
Heavy Metal In Baghdad. Directed by Vice co-founder
Suroosh Alvi, the documentary takes an original look at the conflict in Iraq by focusing on the struggle of young Iraqi metal band
Acrassicauda to rock out in the middle of a war zone. The film is debuting as part of the Sydney Film Festival, prior to the Vice Fifth Birthday Party at the Metro Theatre. It all happens at 8:30pm this Friday 20 June - you can get tickets through Ticketmaster.
