A centrepiece of the 2007 Sydney Festival, the Famous Spiegeltent is this year located in Hyde Park, at the corner of William and College Streets. If you want to experience the venue’s 1920s charm but didn’t get a ticket to the big events, ‘Late at the Spiegel’ offers a chance to have a drink and a bite to eat in the exclusive Festival Garden. It’s closed January 17, but on 15, 16 and 18-20, swing and boogie outfit The Shuffle Club provide the soundtrack, while on 22-24 percussive luminaries Circle of Rhythm take over. Old-world swamp blues and jazz players Juke Baritone and The Swamp Dogs feature on 25-27. If you’re after something saucy, check out the Sugartime Burlesque on Sunday 21 and Sunday 28. Entry is dirt cheap, but the capacity is limited. All late-night happenings begin at 11:30pm.
