After feeling ‘uncomfortable’ with the toll Big Day Out takes on the environment, festival organisers have announced they will adopt a ‘Carbon Neutral’ emissions footprint for the 2007 shows. In consolation with C02 Australia Limited, Big Day Out will ensure the event’s “Greenhouse Gas emissions are mitigated by carbon sequestration using long term Malee Eucalyptus tree plantation.” In other news from the touring juggernaut, five bands were chosen as winners of the triplejunearthed.com Big Day Out competition. Each will step up in their respective states to open the Local Produce stage. It’s psychedelic collective Richard in Your Mind in NSW, young guns Oh Mercy in Victoria and indie rockers Hip Pocket in Queensland. Go to triplejunearthed.com to see how the competition panned out.
