New York veteran Armand Van Helden is back.

The man responsible for some of the biggest remixes and original records will unleash new album 'Ghettoblaster' on 7 May through the Southern Fried label.

It's something of a departure for the man behind underground classics like Witch Doktor and overground pop/dance crossovers like U Don't Know Me, to the seminal remix of Tori Amos' Professional Widow.

Van Helden explains: "On this album I was going for a retro throwback, 1985-89 soul, up-tempo, urban type sound. Chicago meets Miami meets New York City kind of thing.

"Or to put it differently, house meets freestyle meets hip house meets club meets new wave."

With that kind of explanation, you can be guaranteed to expect just about anything from 'Ghettoblaster'. A new single is also on the cards, with Van Helden's next single, NYC Beat, featuring mixes from Emporer, MSTRKRFT and Detroit due 14 May.
