The Series
The series, previously known as 'Another Late Night' is now up to its 15th release. Interestingly, Air's contribution was meant to be released on October 3rd, 2005 as No.14, but due to many delays (further intended release dates included 24 April, end of June and 17 July) Belle & Sebastian jumped ahead of them. An eclectic selection of DJs, artists, and bands including Zero 7, Groove Armada, Jamiroquai, Nightmares on Wax and Flaming Lips have been responsible for previous editions.
Air
Individually known as Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel and collectively known as Air, the duo began working with each other ten years ago, and had produced 'Modular' and 'Casanova '70' before 'Moon Safari' saw them release a string of singles to give the charts a good French kiss in 1998 followed by heavy-duty touring and some of the funniest interviews ever given by French people.
As well as producing two subsequent albums, '10,000 Hz Legend' and last year's 'Talkie Walkie', they also moved into soundtracks with the excellent 'The V
irgin Suicides', Sophia Coppola's first directorial outing. They are the Lords of the lounge, the Dons of the Song.
Given 75 minutes of 'LateNightTales' at their disposal, it's axiomatic that The Song is paramount. Thus fellow countryman Sebastien Tellier makes a deserved appearance, alongside artists like Lee Hazelwood, Scott Walker, The Troggs, Cat Power, Tan Dun , Robert Wyatt , Japan , The Cure & George Delerue, as well as Air's collaboration with writer Alessandro Baricco 'Musica'
