Israeli promoter/ DJ Avihay Partok chatted to Skrufff this week about his upcoming electro-tech event ‘Tel Aviv Is Burning Down’ and revealed that the latest twice yearly event will have a drugs theme.

“We’ve already had ‘The Fire Party’, ‘The Blood Party’, ‘The Money Party and now on June 30th “The Drugs Party’, we promote them with teasers in bars such as match boxes for the fire parties, checks for the money party and little plastic bags with capsules for the drugs party,” he explained.

“For the party itself, we’ll be filling the club with moving black and white optical illusions and mirrors and trying to create hallucinations for everyone, even if they are not on drugs. Beside that there will be giant pills, giant rolled bills (as for sniffing) and syringes, but we do not intend to hand out drugs at the party, we’re only using it as a concept,” he stressed.

Avihay described the party’s regulars as ‘multisexual’ rather than gay or straight, though said local clubbers tend to dress less flamboyantly than their peers in Europe.

“We always encourage dressing up, for example at the Blood Party we gave free entrance to all people that came dressed as nurses, surgeons or serial killers and for the Money Party we let in those wearing only silver and gold,” he said.

“But flamboyancy isn’t really that common here in Israel, which is quite sad.”

The well-traveled promoter said Israel’s club scene continues to thrive as house, electro and minimal mix and match alongside psy-trance, with the club community largely unaffected by broader security issues.

“It is really sad to hear from international artists, musicians, bands, DJs and everyone else, that they are scared or refuse to come to Israel,” he said.

“These days terror can strike anywhere in the world, of course Tel Aviv and Israel have had their share, but I don’t think it’s any more dangerous here then any city in the US or Europe. Hopefully everyone will understand that something quite amazing is happening in the Tel Aviv club scene,” he said.
