After the success of inhouse imprint labels Inertia Recordings (Ben Lee) and Rogue Records (The Hold Steady), Inertia ventures deep into the world of dance with the formation of Pattern - its first dance specific label with a host of talented DJs, live acts and cool concepts ready to make an impression on the Australian dance scene.

The label is to be headed by John Ferris, a DJ of some repute, a Ministry of Sound DJ and now Head Of Labels at Inertia. John has a lively history with success in Australia with acts like The Prodigy, Underworld, Fatboy Slim, Bexta, compilations such as Strictly Techno, DJ Beats and set up and developed the Dance Division at Sony Music as well as did at stint at Warners as consultant A and R. Pattern is a label that encompasses all the experiences of modern dance, electronic, club and beats music.

Pattern's first release in January 2007 is 'Soulstice', from drum & bass gods, Shapeshifter.

Not needing an introduction, Shapeshifter are New Zealand's top drum & bass band and a favourite live act on Australian shores. Their sound has evolved to transcend genre definition, taking elements from jazz, latin, reggae, soul, rock, hip hop and electronica, blending them live into a truly diverse and overwhelming dancefloor experience.

'Soulstice' entered the NZ national charts at a remarkable number 4, spent over two months in the Top 20, and reached number 1 on the independent charts. This is their third album after the successful debut LP Realtime (which was awarded 'Best Electronic Release' at the 2002 bnet NZ music awards) and the 'Riddim Wise' LP (which gained gold sales status in NZ and features some of New Zealand's top soul vocalists such as Joe Dukie, P-digsss and Ladi6).
