been in a hazy daze ever since. Whatever, when the line ups are this good the last weekend of the month can't come soon enough.
For the April edition, East London's finest purveyors of the rave ragu, Simian Mobile Disco come to visit. On Friday April 28 at Honky Tonks in Melbourne, and on Saturday April 29 at The Basement in Sydney, the Simian Mobile Disco boys will be bringing the premium party ingredients, and spinning everything from hip house to hip hop, Electric Light Orchestra to electro pop, and from techno to Turkish trance, with support from more monkeys than you can poke a stick at.
Simian Mobile Disco was born out of the ashes of Simian, a London act from a few years ago that put out two brilliant neo-psychedelic records then
subsequently dissolved. During their time touring as a band, two of the gents in the band, James Ford and Jas Shaw, took to DJing an eclectic mix of
party tunes on the side under the Simian Mobile Disco moniker, with sets including anything from Michael Jackson to Daft Punk to Tina Turner.
In 2002, After the release of the second Simian record, 'We Are Your Friends', the band went their separate ways, with James and Jas continuing to DJ, remix tracks by the likes of Air and The Presets, and produce more dancefloor oriented stuff together, the fruits of which have appeared on compilations and 12"s around the world, and will soon culminate in the debut Simian Mobile Disco album. On top of this, James has managed to avoid sleep by producing and mixing for the likes of the Test Icicles, Mystery Jets and Clor.
Basically, they're talented geezers with an ear for a tune. Or two.
