Civil liberties campaigners in Israel were forced to cancel the Jerusalem March of Tolerance and Pride this week, after police declared they had insufficient manpower to protect demonstrators from religious extremists bent on attacking the march. Gay rights activists in Jerusalem will instead be able to attend a hastily scheduled alternative event, taking place in a nearby stadium.

Tel Aviv electro DJ Ellyot told Skrufff she was upset about the march’s cancellation, though said she’ll still be visiting Jerusalem anyway.

“This is because the police claimed they haven't got enough manpower to keep the gays from being hurt, because Israel attacked Beit Hanun in Gaza yesterday and killed a lot of civilians and the Hamas is threatening revenge. So the police are needed elsewhere.”

“I will be there in Jerusalem but I must say I am so angry at the whole turn of events,” Ellyot continued, “From the bombings in Gaza to the terror the religious groups unleashed, but mostly the gay community's indifference,” she added.
