Due to 3-time champ Staen 1 deciding to step down from defending his title this year, the task was on to find a new Australian champ for the World DJ Championships and the stage was set on Saturday 12th August at the Hi Fi Bar in Melbourne for that very task.

For those who were not there, you missed an action packed night. Not only were we treated to an exceptionally high standard of entrants competing on the night, but the live shows and other entertainment kept us keen right till the end.

This is how the night played out;
First up was the combined SA / VIC elimination heat with 12 DJs competing and the top 3 progressing to the Australian finals later in the evening

The competing DJs were;
BrokeSmoker
Edo
Daiji
N-Cision
Perplex
Hainess H
G-Smooth
DJ B2wo
The Master
DJ Crusador
Danny Cool
DJ Sumone

The battle was on, and every competing DJ made it very clear from the onset that they were ready for the challenge and were not going down without a fight. In the end, the top 3 entrants chosen by the judges were Perplex, G-Smooth and DJ Sumone, to go up against ACT heat winner DJ Buick, NSW qualifiers Normz and Skoob plus defending runner-up DJ Snair from Adelaide in the Australian finals

After an amazing show from J-Red on the Pioneer DVD turntables and a storming live set from Delta, Solomon and Staen 1 it was on to the finals.

First up Canberra's DJ Buick, who had brought support from ACT and got props from the judges for his clean routine and solid drum patterns. Second on stage was hometown homie G-Smooth, who got lots of love from the crowd and judges alike for his pimptastic presence backed up with a super-tight, original routine that flowed well. Third DJ was Sydney's Normz, again with another clean set that he'd obviously been working hard on featuring a slick laid-back juggle routine. Next up was Adelaide's Sumone, a veteran of the battle circuit and one of the recognised innovators of the scene. As expected he came correct with a very tech routine with tight cuts and original juggles. Fifth on stage was Newcastle's DJ Skoob, who finished 3rd last year and was looking to go higher in 2006. His set was deemed musical and packed with good ideas, he even included a Kanye West juggle. Judge Staen 1 had him down as the best so far at this stage in the competition. Sixth DJ was Melbourne's Perplex, and by now the skills were flowing thick & fast as his routine got props from all the judges for his cuts, juggles and scratches. Final contestant was Adelaide's Snair, another clean, tight, fast-paced set with good ideas ensured the finals finished with a bang.

The second live act for the night was Jase Catherine, showcasing tracks from his new album `The Connection' featuring guest performances from Patto, Reason, Phrase and on the deck DJ Flagrant.
