Press reports examining the commercial consequences of Tony Blair buying a house in Paul Oakenfold's Connaught Square, suggest the superstar DJ has lost as much as £350,000 (US$600,000) since the British Prime Minister bought the house next door.

The Standard suggested this week that the massive drop in house values in the area was partly due to weakness in the overall property market though also attributed a significant role to Blair, in a story headlined "Blair Blight Hits Connaught Square'.

"Residents of Cannuaght Square have already expressed misgivings about having the Blairs as nightbours," the Standard revealed. "And the Blairs themselves have still to find a tenant for their property four months on- despite dropping the weekly rent by more than £1,000 to £2,750."

Oakey's unlikely to be too badly affected just yet though since according to the Sunday Times Rich list poll of 2003, he was the highest ranking DJ of the year, earning £4.5 million. He's also currently living in California where his commercial acumen found favour with the Los Angeles Time the same year.

"Oakenfold's not the most innovative music maker in the world . . . but he is arguably is the best businessman dance music has ever seen", the Times suggested.
