Japanese doctors claimed this week that male masturbation is vital for good health, with men who abstain significantly increasing their risks of developing prostrate cancer in later life.

"Combining both sex and masturbation, a man in his 20s should ejaculate 24 times a month, somebody in his 30s should aim for 10 times a month and a guy in his 40s should look at about half a dozen times," Hideo Nakayama from the Hibiya Clinic advised in Spa Magazine. "This should be considered the absolute minimum level to be regarded as healthy." (Mainichi)

The Japanese findings matched those of Australian scientists who two years ago claimed that masturbating at least once a day can cut prostate cancer rates by a third.

"It's a prostatic stagnation hypothesis," study author Dr Graham Giles told New Scientist magazine at the time, "The more you flush the ducts out, the less there is to hang around and damage the cells that line them."
