London techno promoters Ben Sims and Chris Finke chatted to Skrufff this week about their upcoming Turnmills party featuring Derrick May, Andrew Weatherall and Robert Hood and stressed their night will offer a wide variety of styles and people.

"We want it to be more of a party as opposed to going "here's a load of techno DJs, playing another club in London to the same old crowd, we're keen to bring new people into the scene," Chris explained.

"If you say "techno' to most people they think about hard aggressive music and white guys with their tops off and that's not what techno is really about," said Ben "There's so much more to it."

Both DJs also agreed that "techno' remains a potentially dirty word.

"There's some great music out there at the moment, but also lots of really bad stuff, copycat records that are just repeating themselves," said Chris. "It's easy to get stuck in a rut and very, very easy to get bored of techno."

"Everyone needs to do a bit of soul searching when they reach that point where they're genuinely fucking bored of it," Ben agreed. "They need to do something about it."
