Border Community Records chief James Holden took time off from his Australian tour to chat to Skrufff this week and revealed that he's given up smoking marijuana.

"I have quit pot, yes," he confirmed, "But I'm still paranoid."

The 25-year-old producer/ DJ chatted to Skrufff 18 months ago just after returning from the Amsterdam Dance Conference and admitted his habit was starting to affect his life.

"I wore make-up when I was younger but now I'm a paranoid stoner so I wouldn't do it I need to stop smoking," he admitted, "That stoned self consciousness is too much."

"I've almost forgotten how to dance and I also think that's down to my stoned self-consciousness thing," he continued. "I also don't like smoking before I DJ. Although I can get into the music more I don't think music works so well from a stoned perspective. You might be into it yourself without playing a really great set."

James also revealed that his top priority for the year ahead is forging ahead with his label Border Community, with new releases including more from Nathan Fake.

"We've had a bit of a pause to regroup but we're excited about this year, I've nearly finished my EP, which I'm proud of already. and then the big one is Nathan's album, which is as amazing as you'd expect," said James.

"His not-club side is definitely his best side, I think. You can do a lot more musically if you're not restricted to pleasing DJs and the chemical lobotomy victims they play to. I'm really excited about it anyway."
