Thai authorities escalated their campaign against Bangkok nightlife last week, raiding several prominent clubs and urine testing customers for drug use, according to reports in this week's local media.

Police officers from the so-called 'party patrol' division, drug-tested selected revellers inside Novotel's trance dominated basement disco CM2 and Q Bar, while at new club Mystique, they locked the venue's doors and urine-tested absolutely everybody inside.

According to the Bangkok Post, numerous 'farangs' (Westerners, derived from 'foreign devils'; Slang Ed) were tested during the raids, though no-one was found to have been on drugs.

"All the farangs that stay here for more than a month know about the war on drugs and the threat of urine tests," explained Skrufff's new man-in-Bangkok Beee.

"Though I guess many fresh-faced back-packers and visitors who turn up here expecting to party, might get a big shock."
