An army veteran who lost both legs in an explosion in Iraq, was refused entry to a Des Moines nightclub last week, after doormen decided the custom-made sneakers he was wearing on his prosthetic limbs were too scruffy for the club.

The bouncers at 'upscale Clive nightclub' Crush reportedly objected to the black suede Nike shoes 22 year old Robert BJ Jackson was wearing, the Des Moines Register revealed, on the grounds that they violated the club's 'no tennis shoes' door policy.

"A guy goes to war and loses his legs, and this is the thanks he gets," Mr Jackson's wife Abby complained.

The club owner subsequently apologised, though insisted the incident was a result of a 'misunderstanding.'
