Tony Blair in Puff Denial

Top Government Minister David Blunkett sparked off a debate over whether Tony Blair has ever smoked pot, this week, telling Radio 4's Today programme 'he played the guitar very well but it's not synonymous with having a puff.'

The law and order minister (who is responsible for next week's downgrade of spliff from Class B to class C) brought attention onto his leader after urging all politicians to be honest about whether they'd experimented with the drug.

"The call embarrassed Tony Blair who has never revealed whether he tried cannabis while a student in the 70s," The Standard said.

"Downing Street said the Prime Minister would not answer the question because 'we don't take part in surveys'."

The speculation focused on Blair's activities in Oxford hippy psychedelic rock band Ugly Rumours, who were named after 'a phrase which was written on the cover of the 1971 Grateful Dead album From the Mars Hotel' (BBC).
