Owners of Tokyo based venue the Liquid Room have announced that they have permanently closed it's doors.....

The final party on New Year's Eve, aptly named 'The Last Dance', was the final date for the world famous club which held both rock nights early in the evening and opened up later as a dance club.

The club's name was shot to fame after Jeff Mills' legendary 'Live at the Liquid Room Tokyo' mix was recorded at the venue in 1995, and has been instrumental in showcasing Japan's top techno DJs such as Takkyu Ishino, Ken Ishii and Fumiya Tanaka (pictured right).

One of the world's highest situated clubs on the seventh floor of Humax Pavilion in Tokyo's Shinjuku district, the club's only elevator meant music lovers usually had to navigate all seven flights of stairs, not an easy task before and after a night out, but the stairwell itself was a work of art with the graffiti and inscribings from visitors adorning the walls.

The club will be sadly missed but Tokyo still has a list of must visit clubs with Air, Womb and Ageha which have opened in years gone by.
