Tiesto Wins Olympic Gold

DJ Tiesto will be spinning a 90 minute set at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games this weekend, becoming the first DJ to ever participate at the Olympics.

"I am honoured to be to be part of the biggest sports event in the world," said Tiesto this week.

"The opportunity to perform my music for millions of people around the globe will be the greatest highlight of my life."

His latest success comes weeks after he played to thousands of euphoric clubbers at New York superclub Avalon who reportedly chanted his name so loudly they drowned out the music, according to local reporter Matt Kalkhoff.

"There was a day not so long ago when Manhattan marquees bearing the names of such legendary luminaries as Junior Vasquez, Victor Calderone, Danny Tenaglia, Jonathan Peters and Frankie Knuckles would pack 'em in by the thousands week after week," said Matt a review of Tiesto's gig (innerphaseny.com).

"One has to wonder, what the heck happened to our local boys and girls-"

In more New York club news the Village Voice reported this week that long-running West Side house club Filter 14 is to close its door permanently as the city's nightlife continues to falter.

"The closing speaks to the decline in house and dance music," club chief Tommy Frayne told the Voice. The Voice also revealed that Christian Smith's techno night Tronic recently shut down.
