Band of the moment Scissor Sisters and superstar DJ Sasha have been confirmed as headliners for Renaissance's upcoming May Day event in Staffordshire, which takes place at Lord Lichfield's home Shugsborough Hall on May 1st.

The festival style event will be split between three fully floored marquees, hosted by Pacha Ibiza (Scissor Sisters, Derrick Carter, Yousef), The Shadow Arena (Neneh Cherry [dj set], Jon Carter, Infusion) and Renaissance (Dave Seaman, James Zabiela and Sasha [4 hour set]).

Event organiser Geoff Oakes is bullish about the 10,000 capacity event's prospects, saying this week "Renaissance sees this unique event as a timely response to the complacency that has beset the UK's summer festivals."

"Quantity seems to preside over quality in what has become the standard festival offering, where cost is always the defining factor in levels of production. In recent years these events have done nothing to inspire their audience. We aim to change that," he promised

Headline act Sasha is also likely to enjoy the event as well as the absence of Brit magazines such as Ministry and Muzik, which both commercially failed last year.

"It's just fucking rubbish that progressive is to blame for the problems in UK clubland," Sasha told a New Zealand website in 2002.

"These magazines are skating on very thin ice because the more clubs that close down, the less advertisers they can have in their magazines," he warned.

"It doesn't matter to the journalists themselves because they'll just move on to another magazine."

Tickets for the 10,000 capacity event cost £35
