American house star Roger Sanchez branded Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk nerds this week telling Mixmag both bands are nothing like their manufactured 'cool' images.

"Thomas (Bangalter)'s father is an entertainment lawyer who wrote The Gibson Brothers' Cuba and all Thomas' moves have been orchestrated by him," Sanchez revealed, going on to suggest the Jaxx started out as 'nerdy but nice trainspotters'

"Back then, they were like 'How do you get your kick drums to sound like that-" he laughed,"And I was like, 'Dude, I just use a drum machine!"

Whether the the Ali G look-a-like meant to be mean, however, remains unclear, certainly judging by the plethora of conflicting definitions of 'nerd' listed by Google.

While one says the term is 'an idiot totally lacking in personal hygiene and social skills', another suggests they can be recognised 'by their distinctive pit-stained polyester shirts'. The deciding factor, though, appears to be Sanchez's own self regard.

"The 'n' word is derogatory when used by outsiders," says Google, "but acceptable when used to describe a fellow nerd."

Both Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk also recently remixed NERD's track She Wants To Move).
