Superstar DJ Paul Van Dyk has been announced as the star attraction at the upcoming DJ RockThe Vote event, taking place at Avalon Hollywood on Thursday February 5.

The East German icon, who will be supported by American dance heroes Jerry Bonham and Dave Aude at the Los Angeles event, admitted before Xmas that he was surprised to be invited to get involved in the voter registration campaign.

"For some weird reason they think that as a German DJ I have a bigger impact than a lot of their own artists when I say, 'Go out and vote, your vote counts'," Van Dyk told Australia's Onion magazine.

"I just think it's so strange, I'm a foreigner and I get asked to motivate their young kids to actually register for the election."

Van Dyk revealed he hopes young people will vote against the Bush administration in November, a stance American hip hop/electro diva Princess Superstar endorsed, in a recent chat with Skrufff,

"If Bush gets re-elected maybe I will move to London, I love London and it inspires me," she said.

"People seem just a bit smarter in general over there. Maybe it's just the accent, I don't know, but frankly, it is getting very scary here with these idiots in charge."

Hip hop heavyweights Russell Simmonds and LL Cool J also launched their own rock-the-vote style campaign this week called One Mind, One Vote. 46 millions Americans aged between 18 and 34 are currently unregistered.
