Who is Mauricio Aviles when he's not spinning records-
He's someone who is relaxed, likes to have fun and hates talking about himself in the third person. However when I'm not travelling or spinning records, you'll often find me sleeping, perhaps with a Simpson's DVD and a bottle of red. (laughs)

Where do you stand on the sensitive issue of illegal music downloads that are threatening the future of the industry-
On one hand it's blatantly stealing. On the other hand, it's exposing new people to our sounds, which is what we've been doing with our favourite records since we first started Djing. Security measures are now in place to ensure that tracks cannot be stolen or downloaded before major releases. Unfortunately nothing in this day and age is foolproof.

What's next for the label and you personally-
I am currently working on an album, something that I'm very interested in as well as nervous about. It's a very creative mix of ambition and fear, something everyone needs a little of. I've been told I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Well that's the excuse I use for why it's taking so long. I'm also working on a couple of compilations, including some for Naked Music and the occasional remix for artists I admire or have a yearning to work with. I like my finger in a lot of pies.

How has spending much of your formative years in the Latino Mission District of San Francisco, affected the music you play today-
Latin music has most definately formed my sense of rhythm. That is something that good or bad, I will always take with me. I definitely lean towards a lot of percussion or rhythmic elements in what I play and listen to. Anything that can get you to move is ok with me.

You've done some major tours promoting the Naked brand in the past, how much touring are you doing at the moment-
My current touring schedule is almost as packed as my recording one. At present I play in San Francisco at least once a week, travel consistently within the United States and managed to tour out of the country at least once a month. Despite the hectic, living out of a suitcase lifestyle, it's one that I always look forward to. If I ever got sick of it, I just don't think I could do it for long.

Family Presents Naked Music featuring Mauricio Aviles, Saturday October 6th @ Seven - 52 Albert Rd South Melbourne - $20 at the door.
