Moby's upcoming artist album is due to be released next March, and is being called Hotel, his record label Mute announced this week.

The new record apparently ranges from quiet instrumentals and sultry ballads to "uplifting electro-disco' though ominously features vocal contributions from Moby on no less than 12 of the 14 tracks (including two duets). He's also ditched all vocal samples from the production process and adopted the Paul McCartney technique of playing (almost) all the instruments throughout (unlike the former Beatle he's backed away from live drums).

Mute's announcement came as the usually outspoken, socially conscious star said he'd be scaling back his political activism on his much updated website journal at moby.com following the re-election of President Bush. Days after the event he ridiculed George W's renowned predilection for cocaine ("isn't it funny that when talking about our president the question isn't 'did he ever do drugs-' but 'when do you think he stopped doing drugs-') before sinking into despair several days later.

"After thinking a bit about the election I've come to one, simple conclusion; and that is that Americans prefer comfortable lies over uncomfortable truths," he wrote.

"You can expect lots and lots of banality and mundanity from me over the next
4 years because I really don't have the heart to sit back and write about a political miasma to which I feel almost no connection," he added.
