Mixmag's Next Big Drug Keeps Off The Streets

Self confessed drug fiend Mike 'The Streets' Skinner admitted this week that he's yet to sample 2C-I, despite continuing insinuations in Mixmag that the drug is increasingly common in clubland.

"I've not taken it but it's supposed to be like a thinking man's ecstasy," Mike Skinner told the Standard this week.

"If it takes off, there's gonna' be a new kind of dance music that goes with it, probably a very thoughtful kind of dance music," he predicted.

His comments came over six months after Mixmag hailed 2C-I as the new ecstasy, declaring '2C-I is a national mash-up waiting to happen', while in their latest issue, they referred to the drug again in their in/out tipster column ("2C-I Hangovers: Waking up still on it and seeing the floor move like molten lava", in Blacklist).

That a self confessed crack, smack, ecstasy and GHB user like Skinner has so far failed to track down any 2C-I, suggests the Class A drug may be much less widely circulated than Mixmag appear to believe.

In more dangerous drug news, Belgium officials issued an alert last week about a new batch of ecstasy tablets containing massive amounts of MDMA. According to the Belgian Scientific Public Health Institute, a batch of round pink pills stamped with Mercedes logos are in circulation which contain 308 milligrammes of MDMA, well over triple the strength of pills which would themselves normally be considered strong.

The danger pills could prompt users to easily overdose, with dire health consequences including convulsions and coma, the Institute warned.
