Mixmag editor Viv Craske unexpectedly announced he's leaving the UK dance magazine this week, to take up freelance journalism and a new career in novel writing.

"The last four years have been a challenging time for dance music and I've relished the task of reinventing Mixmag for the rapidly changing clubbing market," he said in a statement.

"I've worked on Mixmag with complete dedication and constant enthusiasm, but now it's time for a change in direction for me."

Just two weeks previously he talked enthusiastically of relaunching the magazine in May telling Skrufff, 'I can't say anymore, but let's just say it's going to be a very special summer for Mixmag'. This week, however, he sounded considerably less upbeat, even about his forthcoming novel.

"You can come round and poke my eyes out if I write a cheery little 'Five go mad in Ibiza' type story; there will definitely be no glow-sticks," he promised.

"In fact, I think what I'm doing is known as literary fiction; in other words, no one will read it and I'll be back in the crazy magazine world in six months."
