Shock-rock US pop star Marilyn Manson compared America to a 'diet version of Nazi Germany' this week, though told NME he'd still prefers President Bush to John Kerry.

"If I were to vote I'd vote for Bush because during a Republican regime art flourishes because you have something to fight against," he suggested.

"Republicans are obvious; 'We believe in Jesus, we hate queers'," he said.

His comments contrasted markedly with the Beastie Boys who blasted voter apathy in the same issue of NME.

"The entire world got very apathetic towards politics and now we have a President who really believes that politics and worldwide relations are something for the elite few," Mike D complained.

British soul star Beverley Knight also dubbed W 'a prick, and a stupid one at that' (Time Out) this week though the greatest criticism came from Britain's ambassador to Rome Sir Ivor Roberts, who told a (supposedly confidential) meeting of diplomats that the President is 'the best recruiting sergeant for Al Qaida ever'.

"If anyone is hoping to celebrate the eventual re-election of Bush, it's Al-Qaida," Sir Ivor remarked.

"Whereas it is clear that the Palestinians hope that a Kerry victory will unblock the situation," he said (The Guardian).
