Alternative icon Marc Almond issued an upbeat message on his website this week just three months after he was critically injured and nearly killed in a horrific motorcycle accident, in London.

"I'm looking forward to next year and hope it won't be long before I'm recording or on stage again," The Soft Cell legend turned solo star and electro DJ wrote on his website this week.

"Thanks to everyone again, fans, wellwishers, surgeons, doctors, nurses and police for all that you have done to ensure next year will happen," he added.

The 45 year old's posting also referred to some of the other key events of the year including the publication of his second autobiographical book In Search Of the Pleasure Palace, ironically based around his struggle to handle a midlife crisis.

His quest for meaning included a poignant analysis of his decision to briefly reform Soft Cell which he judged overall as a success.

"Getting older means getting realistic and success is downsized like everything else. If we hadn't reformed Soft Cell, then we'd have always wondered "what if-' Indeed, And besides, no-one died," he said.

"I've discovered that the most important thing in life is having a life," he presciently concluded.

"Having a life has become a priority. Learning to enjoy and celebrate it," he wrote.
