Dave Angel, Jamie Anderson and Richard Sen are DJing for free at Vox Humana at London's warehouse style Electrowerks, next weekend to help raise funds for leading civil rights organisation Human Rights Watch. The three room affair will be covering house, techno, electronic and 'anything with a groove', said event publicist Susan Macdonald.

"What makes this event particularly special, apart from raising funds and awareness of Human Rights Watch, is that every person involved, from the DJs and VJs to the people on the door, are providing their services free of charge, in support of this worthy cause," she told Skrufff this week.

"The support we've had, from day one, to contribute to this night, has been amazing and we are hoping that the public can provide the same."

Human Right Watch is particularly active in monitoring prison conditions across the world and is one of the sharpest critics of America's war on drugs, particularly regarding its effects on black communities and the severity of penalties.

"Drug sentences, even for those guilty of retailing or possessing small drug quantities, can compare to or exceed sentences for serious violent crimes such as armed robbery, rape, and even murder," they point out.

"Ostensibly colour blind, the war on drugs has been waged disproportionately against black Americans. Relative to population, black men are admitted to state prison on drug charges at a rate that is 13.4 times greater than that of white men."
