Laurent Garnier Returns To New York

France's top dog DJ Laurent Garnier kicked off a series of dates in America and Canada this week, some six months after he was forced to abandon a tour due to bureaucratic hurdles.

"He had visa problems last year, but now it's good," an F Com spokesman told Skrufff.

"He's got no problems in America anymore."

The legendary techno pioneer complained furiously about the matter last October, writing on his website 'I hope that one day artists will be free again to travel to the States, but until that date it doesn't look like I am going to be able to come over and play records for you."

His erstwhile visa problems paled into insignificance, however, compared to Sunday Times journalist David James-Smith, who made the unfortunate error of flying into Los Angeles recently on a tourist visa.

"Strictly speaking, as a journalist, you should only ever have entered with the I-visa (work permit) but in practise it had not been necessary. Until now," he wrote, going to describe his fears when he found himself locked up overnight in a prison in downtown LA.

"At about 8am I was placed in another 'tank' (cell) with 20 others," he recalled.

"A man came and asked what a white boy like me was doing there. So I told him."
