Danny and Rueben from electropop-scenesters Ladytron are filling their new Thursday night sessions at Cream's 500 capacity Liverpool bar BabyCream, a Cream press officer told Skrufff this week.

The Ladytron duo kicked off their night at the beginning of the year, themed around an 'alternative dance' music policy apparently varying from The Fall to 60s icon Nancy Sinatra.

"We've been brought in to add more variety to the music usually played at such venues," Danny explained.

"As the bar does not have a dance floor, the aim is not just to get people up dancing: it means we can experiment by playing a different style of music."

Cream's new bar venture, however, could soon find itself caught up in a new campaign by council officials and businessmen to make Liverpool Britain's first smoke-free city. A group calling themselves Smoke Free Liverpool announced last week they're looking at introducing laws against smoking in shops, bars and restaurants, to coincide with Liverpool becoming the European City of Culture in 2008.

"The council is yet to sit down and debate the issue so no definite decision has been made yet," a spokesperson from the group told the BBC.

"It is definitely something they are looking at though."
