US techno legend Kevin Saunderson formally confirmed his involvement in next weekend's Movement Festival in Detroit, telling a local press conference 'I am here now, and I am here to help.'

"Detroit, historically, has been looked upon as leaders and innovators in the music industry. Not only in techno and dance music, but jazz, blues, the Motown sound, hip hop, all of which has put Detroit in the spotlight, as well as under scrutiny, globally. People expect excellence from this city and will accept nothing less," said Kevin.

"I will do everything I can to uphold that image, and if my name and reputation can help make the process run smoother, then I will put it on the line for it; the festival, the music, and Detroit mean that much to me. My goal, as always, is to preserve the integrity of the history of the music, and give it a platform upon which to grow."

The legendary house and techno pioneer, who made his name with Inner City in the 8os, also emphasised the cultural importance of Movement and its grounding in the community spirit that surrounded dance music when it started.

"The fact that Movement is free speaks volumes," said Kevin.

"The festival is a vehicle to educate and inspire our youth, to show them that this music came from regular people just like them, and they too can make a difference. It is an opportunity for the community as a whole to come together to produce something positive for the city."
