Islamic Chief Blames World's Woes on Women

Saudi Arabia's top Islamic cleric Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah al-Sheikh issued a religious edict against liberalising laws relating to women last week, declaring 'allowing women to mix with men is the root of every evil and catastrophe.' (yahoo.com)

The Saudi Grand Mufti also stressed the practise remains 'highly punishable', explaining 'mixing of men and women is a reason for greater decadence and adultery.'

His latest decree came just months after a Spanish court sentenced cleric Mohamed Kamal Mustafa to 15 months in jail (suspended) after he published a book called Women In Islam, which included tips on how to beat women discreetly.

"The blows should be concentrated on the hands and feet using a rod that is thin and light," he recommended.

"So that it does not leave scars or bruises on the body." (Daily Telegraph)
