Muslim legislators in Indonesia unveiled plans for new morality laws this week, making dirty dancing a crime punishable by up to five years in jail.

As well as their proposed 'hip-swivelling' ban, officials promised to introduce jail terms for public snogging, topless sunbathing and watching others practising erotic dancing, while people attending sex parties could face up to 10 years in prison.

"I think there must be some restrictions on such acts because it is against our traditions of decency," top local law official Mrs Aisyah Hamid Baidlowi explained.

"Because this is a predominantly Muslim country," she added. (Singapore Straits Times).

The new laws could discourage backpackers and revellers from stopping off in resorts such as Bali, which during the 90s became one of the key party hotspots on the world psy-trance scene.
