The world's ultimate arbiter of words the Collins English Dictionary has added metrosexual and hasbian to its latest edition, officially recognising both terms for the first time.

While the Collins definition of metrosexual focused on shopping and fashion, Wordspy is less reverent, declaring 'he might be officially gay, straight or bisexual, but this is utterly immaterial because he has clearly taken himself as his own love object and pleasure as his sexual preference.'

The online dictionary is also more illuminating about 'hasbian' a term Collins uses for 'former lesbians'.

"This word appears to be a play on the phrase has-been, a person who was once important or popular but is now largely forgotten," say word-spy.

"Given such a less-than-flattering association, can there be any doubt that this word was coined by women who are still lesbians-"

Meanwhile in clubland, leading London promoter Patrick Lilley, who runs Fruit Machine and long running Queer Nation told the Guardian this week that gay clubbing in the capital is going through an equally radical transformation with a new have of clubbers embracing homophobic ragga.

"The generation that wanted to go to clubs and listen to banging techno has started to stay home and the generation that listen to Missy Elliot has started going out," he said. "That banging techno sound is dead."
