Ex Manumission artiste Har Mar Superstar told NME this week he's shortly launching a garage album "as a two fingered salute to those who have dismissed him as a novelty act".

"I was sick of people thinking I was taking the piss," he explained, "there's less irony on this record and there's nothing on it that isn't real."

One hack unimpressed with Har Mar's makeover, was Guardian critic Dave Simpson, who reviewed the US performer at a gig in Hull and compared him to a "demented stockbroker".

"His peers are not musical but blokes who, after nine pints, prance around in their undies (underwear- slang Ed) and attempt karaoke," said Simpson.

"Not wishing to do any seasoned performer a disservice, they generally have better songs," he sneered.

Har Mar's new album The Handler is out shortly. He also plays live at Edinburgh's T On The Fringe Festival on Saturday August 7 followed by the Colosseum, Coventry on the 14th)
