Prolifically busy Radio 1 eclectic king Gilles Peterson released yet another compilation CD this week, this time focusing on old and new Brazilian music. The simply titled album 'Gilles Peterson In Brazil' features one CD of retro Brazilian music from the 60s and 70s (Classico) and another of contemporary drum & bass, house and jazz (Da Hora) and comes out on Ether Records.

Chatting to Skrufff, recently the North London born (and based) DJ admitted he usually does compilation CDs extremely quickly, not least because of the vast range of new music he continues to receive week after week.

"I get sent a lot of music, firstly because I'm on Radio 1 and secondly because I play a very wide mix of music, lots of people don't quite know what I play so they send me stuff; or they see me as a tastemaker who they'd like to have involved," said Gilles.

"Fortunately, I've got a production company and a producer who goes through all the stuff for me, I wouldn't be able to listen to it all myself without getting completely depressed or demoralised. Though having said that, it's usually through listening to a lot of bad music that I find the good stuff," he continued.

"I'm lucky because I'm not playing just one style of music, if I was just playing drum & bass or trance, it'd be different- I don't know how those guys do it," he said.
