Popstarz promoter Simon Hobart brushed off reports that redevelopment plans for Tottenham Court Road tube station could mean the closure of his hugely successful Soho venue Ghetto, telling Skrufff this week that's he's wholly unworried.

"There remains a big question mark over the entire funding for the Crossrail project, no-one's willing to put up the 8 billion pounds needed so the whole project could still be scrapped anyway," said Simon.

"And even if it goes ahead it's already delayed beyond belief so I reckon Ghetto will be safe for at least another 5 years."

The 300 capacity gay club hosts wildly successful nights Nag, Nag, Nag and The Cock as well as a slew of other increasingly popular events.

"Ghetto is mobbed every night of the week except Mondays when it's fairly quiet; but it's a gay heavy rock night, which is still not the biggest market," Simon continued.

"The club's music policies are diverse throughout the week but the pop policy nights usually win the overall biggest queues award, at Wig Out on Saturdays, there's a one in, one out policy from about 11.30 with huge queues carrying on till 2am. But Friday's Cock and Wednesday's Nag are not that far behind, nor to be honest, is Tuesday's Don't call Me Babe," he added.

Hobart first made his name promoting seminal weekly Goth/ alternative club the Kit Kat (London's first weekly all nighter in the 80s) and is also planning a new club, he revealed.

"Watch out for Trash Palace," he advised, "it's a new gay bar from the Ghetto and Popstarz team."
