German Techno Pioneer Injured In Car Crash

DJ Westbam is recovering in hospital after breaking his heel in a car accident in Japan.

The legendary German DJ has cancelled all dates for July and August, according to a statement posted on his website, with no further information as to when he'll be back.

Taking up Djing in 1983, the veteran star produced his first record in 1985 and promoted Berlin's first ever House Party soon after, gaining a reputation as the 'king of Balearic' (Guinness Book Of Techno). Like his English pioneers, he changed genres frequently, becoming one of Germany's biggest techno DJs in the 90s.

Earlier this July he DJed alongside Paul Van Dyk at the "Fight the Power - Club Culture versus Ignorance' demonstration against the cancellation of the Berlin Love Parade, an event he became closely associated with after recording several Parade anthems with Dr Motte.
