If someone turned around to you and said, "There's a DJ competition that
has the support of Triple J, 12am.com.au, Earthcore, Sliding Doors PR ,
Top Draw Management, UK Record Label - Finger Lickin' , urban promoters
Restless Entertainment, On Point Promotions, Grooveon.com.au, over 30
different universities and tafes across the country and an armful of DJ
companies such as Numark, Vestax, Ortofon, Ultrasone & DB Technologies
all with the support of the British Council in Australia is about to run
its events across Australia" what would you say -......

You'd probably say that's one bloody long sentence !! But it's just the
tip of the iceberg......

In 2003 a DJ competition called *Future DJ* emerged in Victoria that
witnessed the birth of a new breed of DJ. As over 100 DJs competed for
the title as the first ever *Future DJ* the industry watched the event's
support base snowball out of control with some of the biggest names in
the dance, music and nightclub industry banded together with tertiary
institutions take *Future DJ* to greater heights.

In 2004 the *Future DJ* competition has demanded the attention of not
only the dance and tertiary sectors, but now has grasped the support of
the urban and hip hop community. Whilst expanding its wings in 2004 to
become a national event the competition has now been backed by a
powerful organization that represents a membership of tertiary Event
Managers across the country and has received a great deal of interest
from the UK, with discussions of a *Future DJ* UK already on the table.

*So why the big fuss -*

Well it's not often you see a list of organizations like this come
together to support the one event. The *Future DJ *competition's aim is
to project Australia's underground tertiary DJ talent into the realm of
the DJ industry and showcase rising talent that may have never been
discovered.

*So what's the prize -*

First prize includes - a return flight to the UK to do work experience
at Turnmills, Sliding Doors PR, Top Draw Management and Finger Lickin'
... with rumours of more about to jump on at a later date. Oh yeah you
get to walk away with the following DJ gear -

*2 x CDX Numark CD Turntables
2 x Numark TTX-1 Vinyl Turntables
1 X Vestax PMC55 Mixer
1 x DB Technologies Active Speaker system (2 x 15" + sub)
1 Ortofon twin gold needle box set*

*Total value = over $15 000 !!!*

And..... A paid set at Earthcore Carnival (26th -28th Nov).

That's not all folks.. also on offer a further $10 000 worth of DJ gear
which includes....

*Runner Up - 1 x Ortofon twin 'Nightclub' needle box set *

*Each State Final Winners
Ultrasone HFI-500 DJ1 Headphones each
Numark PT-01 Portable Turntable each*

Even if you're not a DJ it certainly grabs your interest doesn't it - If
in its second year *Future DJ* can create such a buzz, could you imagine
the quality of DJs we're as a nation about to discover -!!-!

Since it's inception the *Future DJ* competition has aimed to fill a
void for rising DJs and general punters across the country explains its
National Director Ravi Chand, "To encourage DJs that have the skills but
lack the confidence we've created a competition from word go where
you're already on show to potential bookers. If you've got to the final
stages of an annual DJ competition such as the DMCs or ITFs you're
unfortunately not eligible to enter."

Chand went further to say, "It's not necessarily to stop DMC or ITF
finalists entering *Future DJ*. It's more to do with the fact that from
word go we've never wanted to take anything away or compete against
other great DJ competitions. There was a huge gap and *Future DJ* filled
it. Our* Future DJ* competitors are more of a trick/ club DJ performance
as apposed to the tradition pure trick sets".

Fresh, original, inventive .... *Future DJ*. So what's the catch -
Because it's programmed through tertiary institutions ac
