The organisers of the proposed Freedom Festival that was to take place at the Larmer Tree Gardens on 16th October 2004, cancelled the event this week, after problems emerged over the licence.

"We have had to withdraw the license application and therefore cancel because the owners of the land withdrew their permission," they said in a statement. "We will be making a claim for damages and have been advised by our solicitors not to make any further comment".

The late cancellation came days after they issued an upbeat statement in conjunction with Erick Morillo after a mix-up occurred over the DJ's name appearing on the bill.

"Further to the recent confusion at the appearance of Erick Morillo at the Freedom Festival both Erick and the organisers of Freedom Festival would like to set the record straight," the festival organiser's PRs said.

"Due to the unfortunate involvement of a third party, the organisers of Freedom Festival believed that Erick was booked for the event. Unfortunately, Erick was unaware of this until he saw the adverts. Freedom Festival event organisers were misled and have since tried to book Erick but unfortunately, he is booked to play in Italy at that time."

"The organisers would like to express their disappointment and are extremely sorry that the proposed donation to the Willow Foundation will not be forthcoming," they added on their latest press release.
