Anthony Gonzales from superlative French electronic band M83 chatted to Skrufff this week and revealed that the main inspiration for the band's hauntingly chilling ambient music is the sun.

"I love Paris but there's no sun there, I prefer composing here in Antibes, I feel it's more conducive to making music," said Anthony.

"I was born in Cannes and I've lived here in Antibes since I was a baby, it's a very beautiful city but it's also a really strange city, there's lots of old people here, there's not many rock & roll bands or entertainment here, it's like a dead city for young people," he continued.

"I love the city because there's the sun and the sea and my friends but if I had a choice I'd maybe move to Barcelona which has the sea and the sun but is also a big city with lots of entertainment."

With his band mate and old friend Nicholas Fromageau the 23 year old Frenchman has already established M83 as serious new players on the French electronic music scene though he insisted their goal is firmly centred on their music.

"I don't care about having a lot of money, what drives me is making the music I love, to share it. I like being on stage too, that's cool," said Anthony.

"I'm not a very good musician, I not a good pianist or guitarist so it's really hard to do it, but I try. Perhaps in 10 years I'll make an album that's perfect."

M83's new single America is out now as is their latest album Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts (and both are highly recommended).
