Fischerspooner Re-Emerge

Seminal New York electroclash pioneers Fischerspooner look set to bounce back with their excellent new single "Just Let Go', which musically picks up neatly where their groundbreaking debut album #1 left off in the now far off days of 2002.

The hugely influential electro-disco-performance art collective attracted remarkably vicious reviews when they failed to break the mainstream, such as in the Observer, who labelled them "as worn out as Gary Numan's hairpiece", though in reality opened the door for the likes of Scissor Sisters and electro-rock bands like the Killers and The Faint. They were also immediately recognised by sharper trainspotters such Radio 1 tastemaker Pete Tong who broadcast their debut single Emerge for weeks on his Friday evening UK show. And chatting to Skrufff last year, he revealed he'd himself been first turned onto the track by an unlikely source.

"An interesting thing about the Fischerspooner track is that it was Dave Clarke who turned me on to that record," said Pete.

"It was really the techno scene, who were playing that record as a tongue-in-cheek track, who first got it, and usually they're the most po-faced of all. Dave though, despite his reputation, has a very dark and twisted sense of humour," he added.

Fischerspooner mainman Casey Spooner, whose emphasis on image attracted even more criticism than their music, also demonstrated a subtle sense of humour when he chatted to Mixmag in 2003.

"I don't think people should worry so much about the way they look- it takes too much of a toll on the personality," he declared. "The best looking people are usually the most boring."

Just Let Go', including remixes by Tommie Sunshine & Stuart Price (aka Jacques Lu Cont aka Thin White Duke) is out on EMI in January. Their new album Odyssey is also out early next year.
