Party house popster Fatboy Slim suggested dance culture continues to be in 'freefall' this week, in an interview about his new (more rock orientated) album Palookaville.

"We need a new Daft Punk or someone to kick us up the arses and give us a new gag," Cook told the Guardian.

"It comes and goes in waves. But dance music is going through a very fallow period."

His concerns came just a week after the French filter house heroes unveiled their own radical new creative direction, designing coffee tables for British mid market furniture store Habitat.

The erstwhile clubland pioneers, who virtually single-handedly popularised French house music in the mid 90s, have recently designed a shiny black cube table decorated with flashing red lights, which will be retailing for £1,000 from September. Main-man Thomas Bangalter also announced he was quitting DJing last year, declaring himself too old at 28.

"I've given up because I want to protect my ears," Bangalter told Mixmag, "music is too loud in clubs."
