Fatboy Slim Goes Back To School

Norman 'Fatboy Slim' Cook has announced a series of live dates at universities across the UK at which the big beat popster will be promoting tracks from his upcoming new album Palookaville.

The onetime Housemartin turned multi-millionaire superstar DJ appears to be going back to his roots with the tour, which will see him playing in relatively modest student union venues as opposed to the stadiums and massive outdoor festivals he usually headlines. Chatting to Skrufff in Kuala Lumpur a couple of years ago, he admitted he finds the disparities between superstar DJs and the rest, bizarre.

"I feel bad sometimes because I'll be getting paid a hundred times more than the support DJ and I think to myself 'I'm not a hundred times better than him'. Maybe I'm better but not a hundred times better," said Cook.

"It's strange because the club scene is still dominated by the name DJs; very few younger DJs have managed to crack into this sort of superstar DJ bracket," he pointed out.

"But the only thing I would say is that myself, Pete Tong, Carl Cox and Danny Tenaglia are all around 40 now, so in five years time there could be a big hole in the market; when we all start getting too old for it," he predicted.

Fatboy Slim's new single Slash Dot Dash' ('the biggest and dumbest track off the whole album' as his press people put it) is out on September 13 (followed by new album Palookaville on October 4.
