FAMILY PRESENTS:
PAUL FARRIS (DEFECTED) AND RICHARD EARNSHAW(SOULFURIC)
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 20 AT SEVEN

'Family...We Are House'

Paul Farris (Defected) and Richard Earnshaw (Soulfuric), representing the two biggest labels in house music today, will for the first time in Australia put together a showcase of unparalleled style as they display the skills and sounds that have put them among the house elite.

Worthy and accomplished internationals, Family's continuing commitment to world-class house music has allowed them to put together a must for house music fans, Farris and Earnshaw playing back to back sets of the most upfront house Defected and Soulfuric have to offer.

Richard Earnshaw, the rising star of house music, has a musical past more diverse than most artists. Performing Chopin and Rachmaninov at the tender age of seven, he completed formal training with a music degree from the University of London. The freedom of expression he found in jazz, funk and soul beckoned to him to leave behind the manuscript and metronome and he became involved in computer production and musical experimentation.

In 1998, Earnshaw and friend Mark Horwood teamed up with Piers Penfold to create The Fusion Groove Orchestra. It was the collaborative efforts inherent in Fusion's work that helped mould and shape his own soulful vibe, while also producing outstanding tracks like 'The Dream' featuring Simon Green; their remix of Lynden David Hall's 'Forgive Me'; and Boris D'Lugosch featuring Roissin Murphy's 'Never Enough'.
Earnshaw soon sought an audience with a team who had long provided inspiration, and sent a show-reel to Soulfuric chiefs Brian Tappert & Marc Pomeroy. Impressed with the remix ability and production skills of the young Englishman, Brian asked Richard to put together something original for the label. The result- 'People are People' - and the synthesis of the Soulfuric / Earnshaw sound.

Released in May 02 on Soulfuric Deep, 'People Are People' is a rhodes and guitar led melodic diamond. Its dope chords and jazz-swing combined together to become last summer's full-size favourite on dance floors from Manchester to Miami to Melbourne.

Prolific like few others, this year has been as packed with Earnshaw projects as ever such as those under the monikers Undercover Joe - for truly soulful house and Kaliko - a more eclectic, jazz infused affair whose first release is a cover a 'Cry Me a River'. Then there are the familiar guises, Dubweiser - giving you deep soulful house and Spiritchaser - the deep tech house outfit that offers just a hint of downbeat and breaks.
Richard Earnshaw's passion will always be music and his unique ability to make audiences forget about the negative things in life and embrace the positives, will make it yours too.

DJ, label chief, promotions company owner, radio presenter and magazine contributor, Paul Farris is one the UK's most respected house figures.

Embarking early on his music industry career, Paul worked behind the counter whilst simultaneously playing and promoting nights, directly out of school. Many years, many clubs and much vinyl later, Paul's extensive music knowledge and retail experience led to the conception of a new record store - in the heart of London's Soho. In 1995 Uptown Records opened its doors, and with Paul as Manager quickly established itself as one of the leading independent dance music stores in the UK. It was during his time here that Paul - under the guise of Shere Khan, with ATFC - produced 'Jungle Juicy Funk', with its Bootsy Collins vocals and soul & funk influences.

Paul has been a resident DJ with Defected throughout the label's history. Much respected and acknowledged for his never wavering commitment to soulful house, a set from Paul will encompass the most upfront soulful tunes, combined with essential house classics.

Paul has residencies at Ministry of Sound, Kindergarten Klub, Sounds Heavenly, plus regular guests slots at some of the<
