American drug cops The DEA opened their anti-drug museum in New York's Times Square this week called 'Target America: Drug Traffickers, Terrorists and You'.

Displays include an actual drug related car wreck, a jungle cocaine lab, an Afghan heroin "factory," a re-created methamphetamine hotel cook room, a tenement crack-house room," The DEA declared, " and interactive kiosks that explain how dealers launder money to profit terrorists."

The organisation's latest attempt to link the war on drugs with the war on terror drew immediate flak from civil liberties campaigners including The Marijuana Policy Project, who immediately launched a counter website Target America: The DEA and You focusing on people killed by the DEA.

"The public is waking up to the futility and destructiveness of the so-called 'war on drugs'.' Bruce Mirken from the MPP told Alternet.

"This exhibit's dishonest, hypocritical attempt to hitch the DEA's wagon to the popular effort against terrorism is a sign of how desperate they've become."

The human toll of drug abuse-the lost talent and potential of those who have died from drug addiction-immeasurable. From famous people that many of us recognize, to unknown adults and young people, this cost of drugs is the greatest of all.')

(David Borden: 'The reason that opium grown to ultimately be processed into heroin provides easy money for terrorists is that heroin is illegal. And the converse is also obvious: Legalization of drugs would eliminate hundreds of billions of dollars a year of illicit profits, some of which accrues to perpetrators of terror and other violence. . .')
