For proof that all thing eclectic are prospering as certain narrowly defined
genres continue to struggle, look no further than the careers of Chris Coco
and Rob Da Bank, two former music journalists who¹ve become key tastemakers
of the post house/ after hours style often known as chill-out (or Balearic
as the boys clearly prefer).

Both are influential in the club business (da Bank as promoter of Sunday
Best, Coco as a successful producer and compiler) though it¹s their Radio 1
late night Blue Room show which really gives them power, helping them break
music that otherwise stays resolutely off the mainstream (radio and media)
radar.

Blue Balearic is a tie in with the show and includes new and recent gems
from the likes of Mylo (Valley Of The Dolls), Roddy Frame (Western Skies)
and Schneider 3000 (their kitsch but cool 2002 cover of the Smiths Œthere Is
A Light¹) as well as well chosen golden oldies (including Uptown Top Ranking
and Egyptian Reggae)

According to the accompanying press release Chris and Rob are Œreclaiming
the true Balearic attitude from the gurning masses¹ and judging by Blue
Balearic Blue they¹re doing a pretty good job.

Blue Balearic is out on Monday 23.

Genre: downtempo
