Chemical Brothers' Demise Greatly Exaggerated

Guardian pop critic Caroline Sullivan launched an astonishingly inaccurate attack on dance culture this week in a curiously ecstatic review of Basement Jaxx' gig at Somerset House, London.

"With the Chemical Brothers apparently defunct and Underworld on extended leave, Basement Jaxx are pretty much the only big 1990s dance act still telling crowds to wave their hands in the air like they just don't care," the rock expert claimed.

"(Basement) Jaxx kick against dance music convention by making entertainment a priority."

"The house scene that Basement Jaxx were born into wouldn't recognise them today," she added, "but that's why house is dying and they're thriving."

Her erroneous claim that the Chemicals are 'apparently defunct' came despite the fact that the band headlined Glastonbury Festival earlier this year. They're also about the play at Creamfields' annual event in two weeks' time, when they'll be unveiling at least 4 brand new tracks from their upcoming artist album.

"This attitude of saying dance music is of its time and no longer has a place is wrong," Ed Chemical presciently told Skrufff last month.

"We're musicians and we want to continue making music far into the future, because we get an immense amount of pleasure from making it as well as sharing it with people," he added.
