King Norodom Sihankouk, the nominal head of state in Cambodia, called for his country to legalise same-sex marriage this week, in an expected statement published on his website norodomsihankouk.info.

"I am not gay but I respect the rights of gays and lesbians. It's not their fault if God makes them born like that," said the 81 year old father of 14.

"As a Buddhist I must have compassion for human beings who are not like me but who torture nobody, kill nobody," he explained.

His comments came in response to George W's announcement that he wants to outlaw gay marriages in the States and, according to gay.com, could introduce greater equality in the South East Asian country.
